ESPN’s Chris Mortenson has broken the news that the Broncos have won the Peyton Manning sweepstakes.
Meanwhile, the Broncos will reportedly trade incumbent Tim Tebow once the Manning signing is complete, and they “do not care” what they receive in return for him. So what’s next for the NFL’s only remaining knuckleballer? The Jacksonville Jaguars? The Miami Marlins? Don’t let the door hit you as you genuflect your way out, Tim.
As for Manning’s other suitors, the 49ers and Titans, look for them to rapidly switch gears to placate their quarterbacks from last season, Alex Smith and Matt Hasselbeck respectively. With Matt Flynn also off the market, the 49ers in particular need to smooth things over quickly with Smith, who is a free agent and has been courted heavily by the Miami Dolphins who were also spurned by Manning and Flynn.
What if Smith signs with the Dolphins? Would the 49ers trade the farm to the Colts to draft Harbaugh’s former Stanford pupil Andrew Luck?
